Prisoners showing their sportsmanship in ‘Prison Olympics-2021’ at Central Jail Patiala

The ‘Punjab Prison Olympics-2021’ Games, launched by the Punjab Government to improve the behavior of the prisoners by inculcating a sense of sportsmanship in the minds of the prisoners, have been going on at the Central jail Patiala, in which teams have been divided into 04 zones, Patiala, Amritsar, Kapurthala and Faridkot.
Divulging the details regarding ‘Punjab Prison Olympics-2021, Jail Superintendent Shivraj Singh Nandgarh said that the events being held including male prisoners Tug of war, Volleyball, Badminton and Athletics, 100 meter race, 400 meter, Long jump and Kabaddi competition including women’s chess, Badminton, 600 meter race and Shot put.
SP Nandgarh said that winner teams from their respective zones participated in Knockout stage matches. Central jail Amritsar emerged victorious over central jail Faridkot in men’s Vollayball match while central jail Patiala in same event. In women’s category central jail Patiala defeated central jail, Kapurthla in straight sets.
The final matches shall be played between the respective team on 05-12-2021 and 06-12-2021. The closing ceremony of the jail games shall be on 06th December, where Deputy Chief Minister, Shukhjinder Singh Randhawa will be the chief guest of honour.

The ‘Punjab Jail Olympics-2021’ Games, launched by the Punjab Government to improve the behavior of the prisoners by inculcating a sense of sportsmanship in the minds of the prisoners, kick started in Patiala on November 15, by Punjab ADGP (Jails) Praveen Kumar Sinha at the Central Jail, Patiala.
Sinha had said that a very good atmosphere has been created in the jails of Punjab keeping in view the security, detention and reform. While applauding the Jail Superintendent Shivraj Singh Nandgarh and his team, the ADGP said that the jails would play a vital role in the improvement of inmates through the Olympic Games.
