Dr Gandhi met Rajnath Singh to allow Opium cultivation in Punjab
Patiala-Dr.Dharamvira Gandhi, Member of Parliament Patiala met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him of the Drug situation in Punjab .
He requested the central government to allow the government controlled cultivation of opium in the state of Punjab in order to save the youth of Punjab from synthetic drugs menace and this will improve the deteriorating economy of Punjab .He also made it a point ” to consider drug addict as a patient and not as a criminal” .Punjab be granted to cultivate opium under government controlled conditions , on the lines of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and six other states.
Dr Gandhi further said that the state of Punjab is reeling under the menace of synthetic and very lethal chemical ‘Nasha’ and severe financial crises. Hundred of Punjabi youth, hundreds of Punjabi farmers and farm laborers have died because of these two maladies.These synthetic drugs are ruining the future of Punjab.
Dr Dharamvira Gandhi said that he highlighted the issue to Home Minister and informed him that “after talking to many experts both from the field of medicine and agriculture we have reached the conclusion that the controlled cultivation of Opium in Punjab can help the dying youth because of Medical , Synthetic and very toxic Chemical Nashas and farmers committing suicide because of mounting debt”.
Detailing more on the meeting in Delhi, Dr. Gandhi said that Home Minister has appreciated the idea and assured that the central government will consider the demands with positivity and sympathy, if the state government comes forward with the concrete proposal on the issue.
Dr. Gandhi has requested the Punjab government to prepare a case and pursue at the earliest with the central government. He said this move of Punjab government will save many lives of Punjabis.
