VC JGNDSOU’s Coffee Table Book-‘Tegh Bahadur Dharam Dhuj’ released

A coffee table book reflecting the life and history of the ninth Guru of the Sikhs Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur, entitled ‘Tegh Bahadur Dharam Dhuj’ authored by Professor (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh founder Vice-Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala was released in a well-attended ceremony of the august gathering on the occasion of celebrations of work anniversary of the University here today. The contents of the book exhibit different phases of the Guru’s life journey in and outside the present Punjab with details of Historical Gurdwaras and the relevance of the places visited with mission on specific occasions. Padam Shri Dr.Surjit Pattar, the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the subtle vision of Dr.Karamjeet Singh in bringing out the book as a new milestone set in the Sikh history. Dr Pattar dwelt upon the structure and design of the travels of the Guru brought out in the book knitting together with the martyrdom as lessons for future generations. The project is an effort to spread the message of the Guru among the masses in the recent times.

Dr.Karamjeet Singh, while dwelling upon the achievements of the University, also shared his experience of authoring the book and informed that his upbringing and motivation by his mother went a long way to decide about the choice of the theme of his writing.

Dr.Sarabjinder Singh, Professor & Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Religious Studies and Chairman, Sant Prem Singh Murale wale Chair, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar stated that the book offers a new perspective through Sikh theology to the new generations heading for globalisation. Amarjeet Singh Grewal, a renowned Sikh Scholar, congratulated the author and emphasized that research is the backbone of the project on the Guru’s contribution towards value system and the concept of sacrifice in humanity. Dr Prabhleen Singh of Punjabi University applauded the lucid style and clarity of language of the writing.

Earlier, Dr.Dharam Singh Sandhu, Registrar introduced the Chief Guest and other speakers and welcomed the guests on the august occasion. The event was moderated by Dr.Nirmal Jaura. Present on the occasion were Dr Gurdip Singh Batra, Director, Planning and Monitoring, Harpreet Singh, Auditor PTC News among others. Prof. Anita Gill, Dean, Academic Affairs proposed a vote of thanks.
