Ramanujan Fellowship for work in Guru Nanak Dev University

Dr. Rohini Nair, a Scientist working in the Department of Molecular Genetics, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel has been granted Ramanujan Fellowship to work at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Ramanujan Fellowship is meant for brilliant Indian scientists and engineers working abroad, who want to return to India as an independent researcher. This Fellowship is very selective and only those, who have an outstanding track-record as evident from their research publications and recognition, are granted this Fellowship. The amount of the Fellowship is Rs.1,35,000/- per month with a research grant of Rs.7.00 lakh per annum. The duration of the fellowship is for five years. This fellowship is meant for working in new areas and laboratories in order to expand their research capabilities and contribute to science in India.

It is for the first time that Ramanujan Fellowship has been granted to a scholar for working in a GNDU lab. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu expressed his happiness that the selected scholar has opted for the Guru Nanak Dev University for her fellowship. He said that with fellowship, the other scholars working outside India would also feel encouraged to do quality research work at Guru Nanak Dev University and the University shall always be willing to help them in this regard. It is expected that a very high quality of the work shall be produced as outcome of the research work under this fellowship, he added.
