Govt Hospitals to get more Dialysis machines-Brahm Mohindra

Patiala- Punjab government’s initiative of providing free dialysis facility to the renal failure patients in civil hospitals across the state is proving boon for the patients who otherwise could not afford the treatment in private sector.

Giving information about this pro-people initiative the Minister for Health and Family Welfare Punjab Brahm Mohindra stated that the on taking over the reign of state Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had promised free treatment for the renal failure patients following which free dialysis facility was started at the government hospitals.

Health Minister stated that the state government started giving free dialysis treatment in July 2017. From July 2017 to June 2018, free dialysis facility was started in all government hospitals and selected sub divisional hospitals wherein 5247 patients got 21205 dialysis conducted free of cost. He added that it is mandatory for the people suffering from renal failure to undergo dialysis at least once or twice a week. In private hospitals the cost of dialysis ranges from Rs 5000 to Rs 8000, which amounts to around Rs 60000 per month for a patient and the yearly figure reaches more than Rs 6 lacs.

The Health Minister added that free dialysis facility has given new lease of life to the patients and is proving boon for them. Around 77 dialysis units have been installed in the state which also includes some machines Donated by some social organizations. Soon remaining government hospitals will also be machines.

Elaborating more on dialysis facility, the health minister said that 77 dialysis machines are working in the government hospitals of state. Every machine performs two dialysis daily, which means 154 dialysis are being conducted daily in the state free of cost.
