Former PTU vice chancellor dies

“Deeply saddened to share the news of untimely demise of Brig. (Dr.) S K Salwan of Madras Engineer Group (AVSM, VSM, Scientist Emeritus DRDO and Former Vice- Chancellor, Punjab Technical University (I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University Jalandhar-Kapurthala’ said the spokesperson of IKG-PTU Kapurthala.
“Dr. Salwan served PTU as 7th Chairman of BOG (Board of Governors) IKGPTU from October 2018 to September 2021. He was 6th Vice Chancellor of IKG PTU from 28.02.2004 to 26.05.2008” added spokesperson of IKG-PTU,Kapurthala.
“Late Dr. Salwan will always be known as a courageous man, who never faltered in his determination and Commitment towards his goals. His intellect and dedication will forever be remembered. May the noble soul rest in peace and may the Almighty give strength to family to bear this irreparable and big loss.” said spokesperson of IKG-PTU Kapurthala.
Salwan, a native of Chakk Sikender village in Amritsar, remained the PTU vice-chancellor for four years before joining a research chair at the Defence Research and Development Organisation, New Delhi, in 2008. A doctorate in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, Salwan was credited with developing PINAKA, a multi barrel rocket launcher capable of launching 72 rockets in a minute.
Dr Salwan was an expert in Strategic Defence and Defence Technologies. He has been the Advisor (Strategic Projects) of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He was appointed as Emeritus Scientist DRDO in 2003 by the President of India. Salwan had been founder member of the Integrate Guided Missiles Programme of Defence Research under the leadership of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
