On Wednesday, the PSPCL set a new record for meeting the maximum power demand of 14207 MW in Punjab surpassing its earlier record of 14056 MW. Similarly, PSPCL supplied a record of  3265 lakh units on Tuesday against the earlier record of 3220 lakh units on Monday. Last year the power demand met on a  corresponding day was 12794 MW.

In Punjab,13 out of 15 thermal units are operating today. All the four units of Rupnagar thermal, and three available units at Lehra Mohabatt are generating 1330 MW of power. In the private sector. Both units at Rajpura thermal, two out of three at Talwandi Sabo, and both  GVK units are generating 2980 MW power.  Talwandi Sabo unit has been shut down due to a boiler problem. The hydro generation is around 740 MW.

The coal stock in Rupnagar and Lehra Mohabbat plants is sufficient for 20  and 14 days of coal stock. Rajpura thermal has 21  days coal stock. The coal stock at Talwandi Sabo (5 days)  and GVK (3 days ) are in critical category.

It may be mentioned that after so many years one unit of Ranjit Sagar Dam project is being run in condenser mode to generate reactive power to improve the system voltage. PSPCL has taken Demand-  side management measures by installing capacitors banks, line shunt capacitors maximised for the grid stability.

In adjoining Haryana , the power utilities also set  a new record of meeting a maximum power demand of 12540 MW. It may be mentioned that last year the maximum demand recorded in Haryana was 12125 MW. The power utilities supplied 2640  lakh units in the state .

On Wednesday three units at Panipat thermal, both units at Khedar, Yamuna Nagar,  and CLP Jhajjar are operating. The coal stock is critical  at state sector thermal plants for the paddy season.

The coal stock in state thermal plants remains critical. Panipat thermal has 3.4 days of coalstock, Yamunanagar has 4.4 days of coal stock and Khedar thermal has 7.3 days of coal stock. As the plants are
more than 1500 Km. away from the coal mines,  they are supposed to have a stock of 25 days.
