Thapar student pedalled to Kargil on Cycle to pay respect to Uniformed Fraternity

Aashirwad Singh student of 3rd Year of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala and 5th Punjab Battalion-NCC Cadet has completed approximately 2000 km Cyclathon from Patiala to Kargilo, Drass and back to Patiala. He started his ride on 2nd of July, 2022 from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala and after completing the ride he reached Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala on 11th July, 2022.The objective of Aashirwad was to:
- Pay respect to the Uniformed Fraternity,
- World health by fit India mission forward,
- Climate conservation.
Thapar student pedalled to Kargil on Cycle to pay respect to Uniformed Fraternity. Ride progress summary along with dates is as below:
- 2nd of July 2022, 1700 hrs started the ride in presence of Registrar, Dr. Gurbinder Singh, and Capt. Manjeet Singh, Administrative Officer, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala.
- 3rd July, 0400 hrs halted at Jalandhar for night stay due to heavy rain to avoid the lightning. And further moved for Pathankot 1130 hrs, reached there 2200 hrs. Planned to nightstay there. As on previous day cycling was done during the rain, so felt a little bit of fever.
- 4th July, 0900 hrs started the journey towards Srinagar, reached at Samba by 1840 hrs and planned to go further through Mansar where we halt at 2230 hrs for night stay.
- 5th July, 0900 hrs moved for Srinagar but after crossing the Chenani- Nashri Tunnel stopped by (1900 hrs) Chanderkote check post authorities due to security issues and suggested to move by 0330 hrs for the destination. So we got stay near Nashri Tunnel.
- 6th July, 0330 hrs moved and reached at LalChowk, Srinagar by 0845 hrs, here we were advised by patrol party not to go on cycle due to securities. 0900 hrs further moved towards Kargil War Memorial, Drass with support party. After crossing the Zojilla Pass we resumed the cycling and reached at Kargil War Memorial 1900 hrs, reported to CO of Kargil War Memorial, Col. R S Bora, Madras Regiment and gave a brief about the cyclathon. During the journey we faced altitude issues and weather issues, got advised by Indian Army Patrols to take a truck to avoid landslide/ mishappening. Took help of a Truck to cross Zojil La pass.
- 7th July, 0800 hrs got a group photo with CO Col. R S Bora, Lt. Col. Abhishek V Shinde-2IC Madras Regiment, and Lt. Col. SS Dullat, Army Ordnance Corps. Took the rest of the day for adaptation to avoid HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and to take a glance over Hunderman LOC view point in Kargil.
- 8th July, 0600 hrs started the journey back to Patiala. Reached at Srinagar, Indian Army Patrols suggested not to enter in Srinagar city and advised to stay at Manigam Base Camp.
- 9th July, 0600 hrs moved for Udhampur, but Chanderkote check post authorities advised to stay at Ramban gateway just before the Nashri- Chenani Tunnel.
- 10th July, 0615 hrs moved through Nashri- Chenani tunnel towards Pathankot via Jammu bypass. We ignored the Mansar lake route due to its single lane and heavy traffic with trucks, as uphill motioned trucks could be the cause of accidents (during that time motion can’t be stopped by them). Got knee pain and halted for rest at Samba bus stand, after taking the rest moved for Pathankot.
- 11th July, 0630 hrs moved from Pathankot. But, felt patellofemoral syndrome in right knee, high intensity pain in scatial nerve, risk of potential injury. So moving forward with support party Mukerian onward. On the way felt a little bit relief, so resumed the cycling again and reached at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala by 1410 hrs in presence of competent authorities i.e. Registrar, Dr. Gurbinder Singh, Capt. Manjeet Singh, Adam Officer, CTO Amanpreet Singh, Law Officer TIET, Ex-Servicemen’s in university, Media Personnel & other staff members.
