Farmers will earn profit from stubble instead of burning it this year: Cheema

Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said on Friday that the farmers would earn profit from stubble instead of burning it this year as the Punjab Government has made all the arrangements to ensure it. He also urged farmers to prefer natural farming to save air, water and soil.
The Finance Minister was here to inaugurate the Kisan Mela organized by the Punjab Agricultural University at Rauni Krishi Science Center. The theme of the Kisan Mela is ‘Save Farmers, Youth, Air and Water; Let’s make Rangla Punjab’.
After visiting various stalls and exhibitions at Kisan Mela, the Finance Minister appealed to the farmers visiting this farmers’ fair to encourage others to come and take advantage of the knowledge being shared here.
Expressing concern over the areas of the state which have been declared as dark zones in terms of groundwater exploitation, Cheema said that the farmers should adopt water-saving irrigation techniques to protect this irreplaceable natural resource for future generations. He also encouraged them for breaking the traditional crop cycle by opting for modern farming models to increase their income.
Advocate Cheema said that the farmers and farmers’ organizations have made a promise to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government that they would not set the stubble on fire this year and the government has also made arrangements well in advance to remove the straw from the fields for its use in the boilers, besides offering other incentives to the farmers to check stubble burning.
Replying to the media queries on this occasion, Harpal Singh Cheema said that BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ first failed in Delhi and now the MLAs of Punjab have failed it by standing like a rock with their party. Cheema said that such tactics could work for Congress or other parties but not against people’s own Aam Adam Party.
To a query regarding the Chinese virus, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Government had issued instructions to the agricultural experts to protect the paddy crop from the attack of this virus. On the subsidy issue, Cheema said that the Punjab government will not only continue the subsidies being given to the farmers but also set a mechanism to provide these subsidies directly into their bank accounts.
On this occasion, MLA Dr Balbir Singh, Dr. SS Gosal, the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University and Dr MS Kang, Former Vice-Chancellor urged the farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers with the use of bio-fertilizers to reduce their input cost. They also called for making agriculture a knowledge and science-based profession.
On the occasion of the Kissan Mela, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, K.V.K. Dr. Deputy Director in charge of Rauni Vipan Kumar Rampal, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Dr. Akshita Gupta, District Rural President of AAP Megh Chand Shermajra, SDM Dr Ismat Vijay Singh, SP Wazir Singh Khaira, DSP Jaswinder Singh Tiwana and
a large number of farmers also participated.
