Serving the environment by planting saplings is a true tribute to martyrs and to serve the environment is the adoption of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s philosophy. These views were expressed by Sakshi Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner., Patiala. She was addressing the gathering as chief guest on the occasion of the conclusion of the plantation week dedicated to the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh under the Green Movement at Power Colony on Wednesday. The Van Mahautsav was observed by District Administration, Forest Division (Extension) Patiala and NGO Umang Welfare Foundation in collaboration with PSPCL.

Sakshi Sawhney said that in the present time every citizen can fulfil his desire to do something for the country by becoming a guardian of plants. She also lauded Umang Foundation for awarding ‘Guardian of Trees’ certificates to the environmentalists who planted saplings during Plantation Week.

During the presidential address, DFO (Extension) Vidya Sagari said that every citizen should act as a ‘Guardian of Trees’ to realize the India of Bhagat Singh’s dreams. Umang Foundation Chairman DSP Hardeep Singh Badungar said that under the campaign started by the foundation not only in Patiala but also in different cities of Punjab and Haryana, in which citizens have been inspired to become ‘Guardians of Trees’. He said that the Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh Plantation campaign will continue in future. The ‘Guardian of Trees’ certificates will be awarded online to environmentalists who take a pledge to plant and maintain trees. Forest Range Officer (Extension) Patiala Surinder Sharma and Umang Foundation President Arvinder Singh thanked the guests. Forest beat officer Aman Arora conducted the stage well.

Planting saplings is a true tribute to the martyrs: Sakshi Sawhney . Before this, DC Sakshi Sawhney planted a palm sapling in the park of the colony. With the support of PSPCL and the Forest Department, the members of Umang Foundation and the residents of the colony have taken a pledge to maintain two hundred saplings to be planted in the park.
