IIT Ropar and Panjab University join hands to strengthen technology development eco system in north India

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT )Ropar and Panjab University Chandigarh have signed  a MoU today to foster collaboration and support the activities of Science and Technology.

“The MoU brings together the R&D strengths of both the esteemed Institutions with the expertise and experience of the Industries and will help to bring technological solutions of the scientific problems of the Industry and academia and will also help in setting up a robust and vibrant innovation-driven technology development ecosystem,” remarked Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, on the MoU signing.

In order to support the mandate of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the Panjab University, Chandigarh  and the Indian Institute of Technology  Ropar will work together to lead S&T Cluster in the region.

Recognizing the importance of institutional cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, the cluster will adopt a bottom-up approach for developing capabilities and gradual build-up of resource generation in the later years. The Cluster will be a solution provider for the regional S&T problems of industries, State Governments, District organizations, Municipal corporations,  local bodies and  will act as a service provider, for boosting the ‘translational research ecosystem’ in the areas of Intellectual Property, Technology Management support, Tech-Transfer/Commercialization support and outreach of the R&D activities.  The Cluster will also synergize energies and resources including human resources to cater to the New Education Policy-2020 in order to create skilled human resources which can strengthen the StartUp India, Skill India, Swasth Bharat-Shresth Bharat, Make in India, abhiyaans of Government of India and Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) Guidelines2022.

The S&T Clusters are being guided by the ‘Cluster Apex Committee’, chaired by Vice-Chairman (VC), NITI Aayog, with secretariat support from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser(O/oPSA) to the Government of India. The S&T Clusters will function as ‘not for profit’ Section – 8 Company registered with ‘The Companies Act 2013’. The key purpose of these Clusters is to function as a one stop solution to the R&D problems of the end users, i.e., Industries and Government Departments. The GoI has already established six S&T Clusters PAN India. The major stake holders of these Clusters include academia, research institutions, industry members, MSMEs, startup community and local administrations.

IIT Ropar and Panjab University join hands to strengthen technology development eco system in north India. Prof. Manu Sharma from PU, Chandigarh and Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh from IIT Ropar will be the coordinators to execute, monitor and review this collaborative program.
