Yuva Sangam Manipur students celebrated Holi at CUPB campus; visited the National Martyrs Memorial Hussainiwala

On the second day of their exposure visit to Punjab, the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam Manipur delegates, who are on a week-long Punjab trip, celebrated the Holi festival with students of the Central University of Punjab on Wednesday. The Manipuri students also visited the National Martyrs Memorial Hussainiwala.
On this occasion, the Central University of Punjab student council, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organised a special Holi celebration for the Yuva Sangam Manipur contingent. Karuna Tiwari, the first lady of the university, graced the Holi celebrations as the chief guest along with the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Tiwari exchanged Holi greetings with university students and Yuva Sangam student delegates from Manipur. The festival of colours brings joy and merriment to the faces of students.
While briefing on the significance of Holi, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, mentioned that this festival is celebrated in different states across the country in various forms. At CUPB Holi celebrations, our students from 27 states and 7 Union Territories provide glimpses of their way of celebrating this festival through folk dances and songs. Therefore, Holi celebrations serve as a way to promote social harmony, cultural exchange, and strengthen people to people connect.
Prof. Tiwari informed that most of the Manipuri Hindus are mainly devoted to Krishna. The Holi festival is associated with Lord Krishna, and the Lathmar Holi of Braj, where Krishna was born, is world famous. Therefore, in Manipur, Holi is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. In order to provide a homely environment to delegates from Manipur, the student council of the Central University of Punjab organized a special programme wherein university fraternity played Holi with Manipur delegates. Keeping in view the tradition of Manipur, the students of Manipur demanded Holi greetings/gift from the Vice-Chancellor as blessings, for which he happily agreed.
In the second half, the Manipur delegates visited the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala in Punjab’s Ferozepur district, which depicts the irrepressible revolutionary spirit of three National Martyrs, namely, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev who lit the eternal flame of liberty by smilingly embracing martyrdom for the motherland. The students paid rich tribute to revolutionary heroes Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev, who were cremated there on March 23, 1931. In the evening, they attended the electrifying Indo-Pak Retreat Ceremony at Hussainiwala Border and felt patriotic after witnessing the thunderclap of robust BSF Jawans competing with their counterpart.
Yuva Sangam Manipur students celebrated Holi at CUPB campus; visited the National Martyrs Memorial Hussainiwala. The Manipur delegates will travel to various cities in Punjab over the next three days, including Patiala, Chandigarh, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Amritsar.
