Punjab IAS-PCS transfers; powerful bureaucrat’s back on key positions

Today, Punjab government has issue a transfer orders of 19 IAS-PCS officers of the state.

In today’s reshuffling, some powerful bureaucrats are back of key positions after they were sidelined for one or the other reasons.

Gurkiratkirpal Singh, who was transferred as secretary food, supplies after a controversy erupted with another IAS officer and some department’s internal politics on September 26,2022 and was given no positing orders for two weeks. Later he was given the charge of secretary tourism and cultural affairs. In today’s reshuffling he is back as secretary food, civil supplies , secretary mines & geology and secretary transport.

Similarly, Malwinder Singh Jaggi, another IAS has been posted back as secretary information and public relations in addition to his early charge of CEO Punjab water supply and sewerage board . Jaggi was transferred as secretary information and public relations, after the state government has to face the negative publicity immediately after the murder of Sidhu Moosewala, last year.

Another officer Puneet Goyal got a key posting of special secretary Home affairs & justice in addition controller printing and stationery. Puneet Goyal is considered as a blue eyed officer of former local bodies minister Brahm Mohindra, Charanjit Singh Channi. He remained director local bodies even after the change of government in the state for more than seven months. He was transferred as controller printing and stationery in November 2022, after the arrest of another blue eyed officer of the department Girish Verma, Executive Officer (EO), who remained posted at Nagar Council, Zirakpur, SAS Nagar during congress govt tenure.

Another senior officer Alaknanda dayal and Gagandip Singh Brar fails to get posting orders after today’s reshuffling.

Gagandip Singh Brar who was the principal secretary to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has been summoned by the LK Yadav led SIT along with two other IPS officers retired director general of police (DGP) Rohit Chaudhary (then ADGP, who was overseeing the operations at Kotkapura), retired inspector general of police (IGP) Ranbir Singh Khatra (then DIG-Jalandhar range, who was present at the spot along with other police officials).
