As per available information, today, in an early morning shootout, four persons have been killed in a shooting incident at the Bathinda Military Station. Bathinda is an important military installation of Indian Army and houses the headquarters of 10 Corps, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Jaipur-based South Western Command.

According to sources, the incident took place near the officers’ mess of an artillery unit based at the station.

“A firing incident reported in the early hours of the morning around 4.30 am inside the Bathinda Military Station. Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated. Area was cordoned off and sealed,” a senior officer said.

As per available information, as of now military authorities is going to deal the situation at their own and won’t take the help of Punjab Police . Four army jawans of an artillery unit succumbed to gunshot injuries. No other injuries to personnel or loss/damage to property is reported.

Bathinda SSP Gulneet Singh Khuruna said as per the information shared by the Bathinda Military Station concerned officers, no terror threat is suspected at this stage. He said the identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed by the military station authorities. “Initial information says some army person opened indiscriminate firing on others. Preliminary no sabotage is suspected but details are awaited,” said Khuruna.

A massive search operation has been launched inside the Bathinda Military station and a high alert has been sounded.

As per initial reports an INSAS rifle from the unit and some rounds of ammunition had gone missing from the unit premises two days ago.
