Cardiac Cath lab services kick-off at AIIMS hospital, Bathinda

The executive director of AIIMS, Bathinda Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh has intimated that the Department of Cardiology has started the cath-lab services by successfully performing the cardiac procedures on 50 patients.
He further emphasized that cath-lab services at AIIMS, Bathinda will be a boon to society especially to the poor and needy patients who can’t afford private cardiac care at an exuberant cost.Medical superintended, Prof. Rajiv Gupta, head of the Department of Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery, acknowledged the same and added that the long-awaited cath lab services will not only benefit the population of Punjab region but the surrounding areas of the state of Rajasthan and Haryana as well.
Previously, the cardiac patients were referred to PGI, Chandigarh for the interventional procedure. Due to the emergency nature of the cardiac illness, and the long travel time to reach Chandigarh, a significant proportion of the patients had to resort to private medical care.
Now all types of cardiac illnesses can be treated at AIIMS, Bathindaas the high-end cardiac facilities are made available by the hospital administration. The dean of Academics, Prof Akhilesh Pathak, emphasized that the Department of Cardiology is the first super specialty department to start the DM course, which will help in keeping the high academic environment that will continue to upgrade of the interventional procedures useful for appropriate patient care.
The Department of Cardiology is headed by Dr. Bhupinder Singh (MD, DM-Cardiology) as Additional Professor, and Dr. Suraj Kumar (MD, DM-Cardiology) is working as an Assistant Professor. It was further assured by Dr. Bhupinder Singh that the department of cardiology will provide holistic care to the cardiac patient with the help of invasive and non-invasive cardiac services.
He said that these services will benefit the patients in terms of angioplasty (stenting) for heart attack patients and other patients with blockages in the heart vessels, non-surgical device closures (for the holes in the heart of children), pacemakers, etc.He further added that following a “PATIENT FIRST POLICY” the Department of Cardiology will provide the appropriate and more importantly ethical services to all cardiac patients visiting AIIMS, Bathinda.
