The inaugural session of the conference had a key note address by an  eminent scholar Dr. Navtej K. Purewal, ”
In her address address, she explained how Punjabi society is highly patrarchial  and we can create a just society with equal opportunities for all. She highlighted how, in spite of high per capita income, there are chronic gender issues in states like Punjab, Haryana and Gujrat. She concluded that it is higher education and awareness which can bring equality in society.

Pbi Uni Women’s Studies Centre organized Int’l conference                                                                                                                      Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma , chief guest of the session emphasized how financial independence is fundamental to women empowerment. She lamented the fact that it is a common practice to abandon women even by a family in adverse circumstances. Dr. Harshinder who is a pediatrician by profession and works in the area of child protection presented painful data related to crime against children, and how there is a sharp increase in abduction, rape and atrocities against widows specially in Vrindavan . She highlighted that 41% to 47% girls are sexually exploited by close relatives like fathers, brothers, neighbours and co-workers. Dr. Amita Rishi Professor in Economics Ex member Public Service Admission asserted that a family can inculcate Indian moral values in children. Men and women may complement each  other to raise good & healthy children.
