The state education department has asked government primary schools across the state to start the Nursery class from the upcoming academic session. The government has done this keeping in mind the education policy of the central government .
With private nursery and playway schools admitting students at the age of two-and-a-half years, the state education department has decided to enrol 3-4 year-old children in the nursery class, 4-5 year old children in the LKG class, 5-6 year old children in the UKG class and to admit students to Class 1 at the age of six in government schools, instead of the earlier practice of “5+” years.
The government is running a special campaign to increase enrollment in government schools. The newly introduced nursery class will be of one hour duration only.
The foundational stage, as defined by the new National Education Policy (NEP), consists of five years of learning opportunities for all children (between 3 to 8 years), including three years of preschool education followed by Class 1 and 2.
