Election commission to sound poll bugle on March 16; Kumar, Sandhu joins ECI office

Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu today assumed charge as Election Commissioners in the Election Commission of India.
As per available information, Election Commission is going to announce poll dates tomorrow. The Commission to hold a press conference the schedule for General Elections 2024 & some State Assemblies will be held at 3 pm tomorrow, 16th March as the ongoing term of the Lok Sabha will end on June 16, and a new House needs to be constituted before that.

Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Haryana, and Maharashtra will all go into elections this year. The Supreme Court of India also asked the central government to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024. The ECI may also announce the schedule for these respective states.
