A joint meeting of different organisations of the General Category was held on Tuesday and demanded that the appointment of Chairman and Staff of Punjab General category Commission be made immediately, said Shyam Lal Sharma chief organiser of the joint action committee.

The commission was established by the previous  government in December 2021 for solving the problems of general categories and listening to their grievances. The present government has not appointed chairman and other necessary staff for the last more than  two years. Due to this there is no one to hear the grievances of the general category.

The joint meeting was chaired by Shyam Lal Sharma and attended by Balbir Singh Phuglana,Jasvir Singh  Garang,Jagtar Singh  ,Jagdish Singla and others ,said V K Gupta spokesperson.

The meeting condemned the lacklustre attitude of different departments of the Punjab government in implementation of reservation policy in the state as per supreme court guidelines.A number of departments are promoting more than required employees of reserve category against guidelines.

The meeting also demanded that employees and pensioners be paid pending three DA instalments and arrears of pay revision. The temporary  employees should be regularised at the earliest.

Sharma said that in services the reserve category employees are enjoying more than their share quota posts. The political parties in Punjab are aloof to the problems of general category. The federation has already submitted various memorandums on this demand to the chief minister through ministers and various party leaders.
