To address the issue of school absenteeism and dropout rates, the Patiala District administration has initiated the ‘Naviyan Rahan’ project. The project was officially launched today by Punjab’s Health Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh.

At a ceremony held at the district administration complex, Dr. Balbir Singh, along with Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray, distributed 22 e-rickshaws to women from self-help groups. These e-rickshaws, purchased at a cost of Rs 26 lakh with the support of the SC Corporation and Manku Agrotech Private Limited’s MD, Sukhwinder Singh Manaku, aim to facilitate the transportation of children to school.

Dr. Balbir Singh congratulated the district administration and the beneficiary women, highlighting the Punjab government’s commitment to improving health and education under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He emphasized the government’s efforts in developing robust infrastructure for education and health services.

Describing the women receiving the e-rickshaws as brand ambassadors for this educational initiative, Dr. Balbir Singh stressed the importance of collective effort to achieve the vision of ‘Rangla Punjab’ set forth by the Chief Minister.

Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray mentioned that under the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the National Urban Livelihood Mission, these e-rickshaws will serve 12 schools across six blocks in the district’s rural and urban slum areas. This initiative will not only provide a livelihood for the women but also support the education of 400 children. Additionally, bamboo schools have been established for 160 children in Dhablan and Masingan to ensure that the children of kiln workers receive an education.
