Central University of Punjab hosts ‘Deeksharambh – Student Induction Programme 2024–25’

With the commencement of the Academic Session 2024–25, Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) organized a two-day Deeksharambh – Student Induction Programme on August 28–29, 2024, to warmly welcome the incoming batch of students. The programme was aimed to help new students acclimatize to their surroundings, build connections with fellow students and faculty, and establish a supportive environment conducive to effective teaching and learning. Around 1000 first-year students from across the country, enrolled in various UG and PG programmes in sciences, humanities, and social sciences, actively participated in the event.

The induction ceremony was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, who delivered an inspiring keynote address underscoring the university’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Prof. Tiwari expressed pride in welcoming the new students to CU Punjab, an A+ Grade NAAC accredited institution, ranked 83rd in the University category and 23rd in the Pharmacy category in the NIRF 2024 rankings. He emphasized the university’s dedication to providing a nurturing, home-like environment that supports personal growth and encouraged students to balance academics with co-curricular engagement for a fulfilling university experience.

Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge of Academics, introduced the newly enrolled students to the university’s extensive teaching-learning facilities, explaining the course structure, academic regulations, and the availability of both academic and non-academic services. He mentioned that the university has devised a curriculum and carried out academic reforms as per NEP-2020 and the National Credit Framework. Prof. Wusirika also shared details about the grievance redressal system available for students. Furthermore, Prof. Anjana Munshi discussed the process for filing grievances related to sexual harassment with the Internal Complaints Committee.

Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director of IQAC, showcased CU Punjab’s impressive performance in national rankings and accreditations. She also discussed the best practices of the university and plans to improve performance in national and global rankings. Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director of Research and Development, provided an overview of the university’s research ecosystem and highlighted the importance of student involvement in research. Prof. Raj Kumar encouraged students to take advantage of the advanced instrumentation facilities available at the Central Instrumentation Laboratory for their research.

Prof. B.P. Garg, Controller of Examinations, highlighted the transparency of the admission process and shared details of the university’s online Feedback, Evaluation, and Examination systems. He also explained the use of DigiLocker and the Academic Bank of Credits. Prof. Vinod Pathania, Coordinator of the Training and Placement Cell, discussed the comprehensive training and placement support available to students. Additionally, students were briefed on procedures for utilizing the University Library and Computer Centre.

On the second day, Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean of Student Welfare, along with his team, provided details about hostel accommodations, mess, and canteen facilities while also emphasizing the university’s strict Anti-Ragging Policy. The induction programme further introduced students to a variety of co-curricular opportunities, including NSS activities, sports, and cultural events. Students were also briefed on the medical and counseling facilities available on campus.

As part of the induction programme, the new students attended special sessions on the Art of Living led by Sumeet Arora, faculty at the Art of Living organization, and  Vicky Sehgal, Director of Sinesoft Education.

In addition to the university-level Deeksharambh, departments also conducted discipline-specific Student Induction Programmes along with mentoring and peer interaction sessions to help students quickly adapt to the new academic environment, ensuring a smooth transition into university life.
