U Turn by Akali Dal ; appointment of former bureaucrat as advisor to acting president, withdrawn

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and controversies seems to go hand in hand. Recently the acting president Balwinder Singh Bhunder has appointed former bureaucrat Darbara Singh Guru as advisor to SAD working President Balwinder Singh Bhunder.

Today, the party takes “U Turn” and withdraws the appointment of Darbara Singh Guru as advisor to SAD working president. The same is confirmed by the working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder. He added that party had no knowledge about that incident.”

Earlier, the appointment had opened a Pandora box of controversies related with Darbara Singh Guru.

As per, Baldev Singh and Baldeep Kaur parents of deceased Ravinder Singh Litra “Darbara Singh Guru is accused of giving order to police to fire on sikh youths who were participating in a protest against the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Nakodar, in which four sikh young boys were killed in police firing at Nakodar in 1986. Guru was then was ADC and acting as deputy commissioner and Mohammad Izhar Alam was the SSP of Jalandhar. ”

It is also alleged that four young sikh boys namely Ravinder Singh Litra, Baldhir Singh Ramgarh, Jhilman Singh Gorsian, Harminder Singh Chulupur were killed in the firing and the dead bodies were secretly disposed off to conceal the extrajudicial killing.

The parents, a resident of USA, has written a letter to Akal Takht sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh on September 6,2024 and lodged their resentment over the appointment of Darbara Singh Guru as advisor to SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder.

The parents of Ravinder Singh Litra has alleged that “Darbara Singh Guru and Mohammad Izhar Alam were proved guilty by the shiromani akali dal committee, formed to investigate the reasons, truth of the Saka Nakodar in which four youths were killed in police firing. The committee was formed under the command of party’s vice president Kabul Singh, present MLA of that time Kuldip Singh Wadala. The committee also recommended action against the guilty officers but nothing was done at that time.”

They further added that on one side, Sukhbir Singh Badal appeared before the highest temporal seat of Sikhs Sri Akal Takht and sought an apology for the “mistakes” committed by the party and its government from 2007 to 2017 on the other hand a defector and an accused of giving order to police to fire and killing young innocent four youths, is appointed as advisor to the working party president. He had even left the party before elections and joined back his mother party, recently”

The parents further requested the Jathedar Akal Takht sahib to look into the wrong decision made by akali dal by appointing Guru as advisor to working president.
