DC Himanshu Jain honours progressive farmers for not burning stubble from 3 years

Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Monday honoured progressive farmers who did not burn stubble from 3 years in a special function organized by District Administration and Punjab Pollution Control Board at District Administrative Complex.
Addressing the farmers on this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government is committed to provide support at all levels for the management of paddy stubble and under this series, a special campaign is also being conducted by the district administration in which the farmers are participating with joint platform.
With an aim to curb incidents, the farmers of every village are being made aware of ill effects of stubble burning, he said.
Himashu Jain thanked the farmers present in the function and said that only 47 cases of stubble burning were reported in district Rupnagar last year which was 90 percent less than the cases of 2022 and these figures are a proof of a broad positive sign towards the safety of environment.
He further said that farmers have been giving full support to the district administration for proper conservation of nature and due to these joint efforts we will surely succeed in reducing stubble burning cases to zero this time.
Speaking to the farmers on this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the government has provided the necessary machinery for the management of straw. But still a few farmers burn stubble, so he appealed to the farmers to not burn stubble in the fields to protect the environment.
Deputy Commissioner added that there are a large number of progressive farmers in the district, who are not burning the stubble for the past several years and considering their moral and social responsibility towards nature and environment, they are planting the next crop without burning the stubble.
He said that the district administration is awarding such farmers with appreciation letters and memento.
He divulged that the agriculture department has been instructed to make a roster of machinery available to the societies and panchayats and especially to provide agricultural machinery to small farmers on a priority basis.
