Patiala Foundation’s Initiative: organized Road Safety Sensitization Training Programme for journalists

Patiala Foundation, in collaboration with the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, successfully organized a Road Safety Sensitization Training Programme for journalists as part of the Global Initiative – Mobility Snapshot 2024.

The Road Safety Reporting Initiative aims to help journalists tell more and better stories that help reduce deaths from crashes. The event took place on 18th October 2024 and was attended by journalists committed to improving public awareness on road safety issues through accurate and responsible reporting.

The training was led by Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Patiala Foundation, and was based on the WHO’s “Reporting on Road Safety” guide, providing participants with vital tools to report road safety matters more effectively. This initiative is part of the Patiala Foundation’s Project SADAK, which focuses on road safety education and awareness, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG 3 & 11).The program was graced by distinguished guests, including Naman Markan, PCS, Regional Transport Officer Patiala, G.S. Sikand, DSP Samana whose presence added importance and value to the event.

Patiala Foundation’s Initiative: organized Road Safety Sensitization Training Programme for journalists. During the training, Patiala Foundation also showcased two of their unique initiatives:

  • Helmet Distribution: As part of the Helmet Bank initiative, helmets were distributed to participants to emphasize the importance of safety for two-wheeler riders.
  • Manure Distribution: Under the PRITHVI project, the Foundation distributed manure packaging made from dry leaves using the Dry Leaf Composter, an initiative aimed at environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The project also includes the distribution of Patiala Foundation Children Challan Books to help young road users understand the importance of road safety.

The event ended on a positive note, with participants expressing their gratitude for the knowledge gained and their commitment to enhancing road safety reporting. This collaboration between Patiala Foundation and WHO is expected to create a ripple effect, leading to more informed and responsible journalism on road safety in the region.
