Diwali Blues: 17 fire incidents in Patiala this Diwali

The officials of Patiala Fire Services said their control room received the 17 Diwali-related emergency calls, including fire incidents, on October 31,2024.

“During this Diwali, as many as 17 incidents of fire were reported from across the city. All the fire incidents were not so major except for one at Surya Complex, Leel Bhawa, Market in which an office of a media organistion gutted and no casualties were reported in all these 17 fire incidents. A prompt and efficient response from the city’s firefighting units, comprising a fleet of all types of fire tenders be it a small or big vehicle played a crucial role in swiftly containing the fires. The coordinated efforts by the firefighting teams helped prevent any escalation of the situation, ensuring the safety of residents” said Jaswinder Singh, additional divisional fire officer, Patiala.

Among the reported incidents, fire incidents were reported from Anand Nagar, Tripuri , Mohall Daru Kuttiya-Sular road, Yadwindra colony-Sirhind Road, Bharat Nagar, Bhasha Bhawan, Bhindian Wali gali amongst other. Fire incidents gutted houses, shops and few fire incidents were reported from farms. As per officials in some areas the fires were attributed to the combustion of garbage due to the bursting of firecrackers.

Jaswinder Singh added ” this year the citizens are celebrating Diwali for two days. Our fire service team members are already on alert mode for today’s celebrations.  We once again request the residents to follow the safety instructions,light them in open, uncrowded areas, point them straight up, always keep very young children and elderly people away from firecrackers, lamps and candles , be cautious with electrical decorations to prevent electrical fires etc and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incident .”

Diwali Blues: 17 fire incidents in Patiala this Diwali . Fire officials emphasised the importance of responsible burning of crackers and proper disposal of waste to avoid such incidents in the future.

Patiala pollution level doubles and recorded a jump and a smoky haze on Thursday night after residents flouted the ban on firecrackers on Diwali night.
