A.G.I.-The Gastrociti, Ludhiana & Marengo Asia Hospitals Celebrate 5th Anniversary of Liver Transplantation Services

The Advanced Gastroenterology Institute (A.G.I.)-The Gastrociti, Ludhiana, in collaboration with Marengo Asia Hospitals, proudly celebrated the 5th anniversary of its Liver Transplant Services with a special felicitation ceremony dedicated to liver transplant donors and recipients. This landmark event marked five years of clinical excellence in Transplant Hepatology and honoured the remarkable courage & generosity of those who have been part of these life-saving procedures.
In a press communiqué’ the spokesperson said “since the inception of its liver transplant services, the team has completed 100 liver transplants from the region of Punjab out of which 50 successful liver transplants have been conducted for patients referred from A.G.I.-The Gastrociti. These achievements underscore the institute’s growing stature as a regional center of excellence for liver disease management and transplant support”.
The event featured prominent medical dignitaries that included Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Malhi, Chairman and Head of Department at A.G.I.-The Gastrociti, and a pioneer in the field of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in India. He was joined by key members of the institute’s clinical team, including Dr. Rajiv Grover (Vice Chairman), Dr. Jasmeet S. Dhingra (Director), and Dr. Neeraj Singla (Consultant, Gastroenterology). Dr. Punit Singla, a renowned Liver Transplant Surgeon from Marengo Asia Hospitals was accompanied by Dheeraj Sharma, Assistant General Manager – Sales & Marketing. The GI Surgery & Oncology team was represented by Dr. Harpal Singh (Senior Gastro Surgeon), Dr. Harpreet Singh Khetarpal (Senior General and Laparoscopic Surgeon) and Dr. Navdeep Singh (Senior Medical Oncologist).
Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Malhi widely respected for his visionary leadership and clinical expertise delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the life-saving significance of liver transplantation, the critical need for early diagnosis, and the growing urgency to raise public awareness about liver health. He spoke passionately about the institute’s journey over the past five years, reaffirming A.G.I.-The Gastrociti’s core mission to deliver state-of-the-art medical care combined with empathy and personalized attention.
Dr. Rajiv Grover shared the changing spectrum of liver disease on World Liver Day. He also highlighted the emotional story of a daughter who donated a portion of her liver to save her father’s life-a powerful example of family strength and selfless love. The story touched everyone present and served as a reminder of the human side of organ donation and transplant medicine.
Dr. Punit Singla and his team, who have an experience of >2000 Liver transplants, provided an update on the comprehensive services related to the entire journey of liver transplantation including the medical requirements, legal support, logistic and emotional backup and cadaveric support framework. He emphasized the role of A.G.I.-The Gastrociti as premier transplant evaluation and referral centre for entire North India, recognized for its advanced care, expert team, and commitment to excellence.
During the felicitation, donors and recipients shared their heartfelt journeys, expressing gratitude to the medical teams and encouraging others to consider organ donation.
