AAP Vs LG again on farmer’s protest

Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government on Friday cancel the panel of lawyers constituted by Delhi Police. Delhi government cabinet has decided that now Delhi government advocates will appear in trials of cases registered against the protesting farmers.
“It was decided that the Delhi government’s lawyers will be public prosecutors in court matters related to the farmers’ agitation. The cabinet decision will be sent to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal for approval.” said a party spokesperson.
As per available information, Delhi Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) is interested in finalising the panel of advocates of Delhi Police, where as the Delhi Government is interested in finalising the panel of Delhi government advocates, to appear, fight for the cases of farmers, registered against them.
Yesterday, the Delhi government had said that Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has refused to let a panel of lawyers constituted by it to appear in trials of cases registered against the protesting farmers.
“The L-G has asked the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government in Delhi to give Cabinet’s approval on a panel of lawyers suggested by the Delhi police. The police, who are investigating the cases registered against the farmers, want to appoint a panel of their own lawyers, upon which the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called an immediate meeting on Friday,” read yesterday statement from the Chief Minister’s office.
AAP Vs LG again on farmer’s protest. On Thursday, the Delhi government has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre of putting pressure on it to replace its prosecutors appearing in cases related to the anti-farm laws stir with those of the Delhi Police.
