Continuing crackdown on illegal liquor in the state on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab police has seized 9 illegal liquor storage and distribution points in Majitha, Ajnala and Attari sub-divisions and recovered 12,30,800 ml liquor.

ASP Majitha Abhimanyu Rana and ASP (under training) Maninder Singh, currently posted as SHO PS Ajnala, have played vital role in intelligence collection and conducting raids, seizures and criminal investigation of these cases under the supervision of Dhruv Dhaiya SSP Amritsar Rural. Earlier in may this year ASP Abhimanyu Rana, IPS, posted as SHO Sadar along with other police officials arrested Ranjeet Singh @ Rana @ Cheeta, a big fish in the ISI-controlled network, with links to Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naikoo who was killed by security forces in Kashmir recently. On May 3. 2020 he is awarded Director General of Police Honour for Exemplary Sewa to Society’ for their exceptional community service on the frontlines of the COVID-19 operations and response activities in the state.

Disclosing this DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that Amritsar (Rural) Police have launched a special drive for three days and seized nine such illegal liquor distribution centres based on local intelligence sources.

DGP revealed that total of 12,30,800 ml liquor has been seized across raids on 9 illegal liquor centres situated in sub divisions Majitha, Ajnala and Attari. ASP Majitha Abhimanyu Rana and ASP (under training) Maninder Singh, currently posted as SHO PS Ajnala, have played vital role in intelligence collection and conducting raids, seizures and criminal investigation of these cases under the supervision of Dhruv Dhaiya SSP Amritsar Rural, he added.

Giving details Dinkar Gupta informed that illegal liquor centre situated in village Chattiwind Lehal, PS Kathunangal was raided and seized by the team of ASP Majitha and SHO PS Kathunangal on Saturday. This led to the recovery of 1,61,460 ml of liquor and FIR no. 286 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Kathunangal was registered against Balwant Singh s/o Jagir Singh of village Chattiwind Lehal, and Rajinder Kumar of village Jaintipur.

Another illegal liquor centre situated in the same village was also raided and seized which led to the recovery of 20,250 ml of liquor. In this case FIR no. 287 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Kathunangal was registered against Gursharan Singh s/o Kuldeep Singh of village. Chattiwind Lehal, and Rajinder Kumar of village Jaintipur.

Amritsar Rural police have raided and seized another illegal liquor centre situated in village Bhilowal, PS Kathunangal which led to the recovery of 39,750 ml of liquor. In this case FIR no. 288 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Kathunangal was registered against Moti Ram s/o Pakhar Ram of village Dashmesh Nagar, PS Tarsikka and Satish Kumar s/o Om Parkash of village Wadala Banger in Batala.

He said that a police team led by SHO PS Kambo have raided and seized another illegal liquor centre situated in village Sohian Khurd, and recovered of 8,250 ml of liquor. FIR no. 271 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Kambo was registered against Gurmej Singh s/o Budh Singh of village Sohian Khurd.

Further, a major recovery of 4,21,440 ml liquor was made from the raid and seizure of illegal liquor centre situated in Ajnala by ASP/UT SHO PS Ajnala. In this case FIR no. 289 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Ajnala was registered against Sarabjit Singh s/o Darshan Singh of Ajnala, Anshu Babbar, Gaurav Arora and Vishal Bajaj, all partners of Amritsar Wine.

In addition to this another illegal liquor centre situated in village Dalla Rajputan, PS Ajnala was also raided and seized which led to the recovery of 18,670 ml of liquor. FIR no. 290 dated 26.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Ajnala was registered against Amrik Singhs/o Dhanta Singh of village Dalla Rajputan, Anshu Babbar, Gaurav Arora and Vishal Bajaj, all partners of Amritsar Wine.

DGP Gupta further said Majitha police have raided and seized illegal liquor centre situated in village Buddha Theh, on Friday and recovered 61935 ml of liquor. FIR no. 224 dated 25.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Majitha against Sarabjeet Singh s/o Bakhshish Singh of village Umarpura, and Rajinder Kumar of village Jaintipur have been registered.

In addition to this, another illegal liquor centre situated in village Bulara, PS Mattewal was raided and seized which led to the recovery of 2,79,000 ml of liquor. FIR no. 100 dated 24.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Mattewal was registered against Sahib Singh s/o Bir Singh of village Bulara and Satish Kumar s/o Om Parkash of village Wadala Banger, Batala.

Likewise, Ajnala police have raided and seized illegal liquor centre situated in village Jagdev Khurd, and recovered 2,20,045 ml of liquor. In this case FIR no. 288 dated 24.9.2020 u/s 61, 1, 14 Excise Act, at PS Ajnala against Manga s/o Jeera of village Chak Bakal, Anshu Babbar, Gaurav Arora and Vishal Bajaj, all partners of Amritsar Wine have been registered.
