Accepting good wishes proves costly for Himachal Pradesh DGP; is home quarantined

Today, the Himachal Pradesh police headquarters in Shimla has been sealed for 48 hours , for santization, after a visitor who called on the newly appointed director general of police Sanjay Kundu a week ago tested positive for Covid-19 and died. The police department is following the protocol issued by the Union health ministry and sealing the areas he visited. DGP Sanjay Kundu is in home quarantine and his samples have been sent for testing.

“The man had visited Kundu in office on June 1 to felicitate him after he took charge as the state DGP , tested positive for coronavirus infection in Delhi on June 8 and passed away on June 9. ,” police spokesman said in a release.

“We are also having the officers and personnel, who this person may have come in contact with, medically tested. The officers and personnel tested will remain in self-quarantine till such time as their results come out negative,” the release added.

A team of doctors was at the police headquarters on Tuesday morning to take swab samples of 20 police personnel. “All those who have been examined will remain in self-quarantine till their medical reports come,” Sharma said.

The Himachal Pradesh government on May,30,2020 appointed 1989 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sanjay Kundu as the new Director-General of Police (DGP). Kundu, who holds the charge of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, took over the charge of top cop from S R Mardi.
