Admission to 4-Years Integrated Teacher Education Programmes through National Common Entrance Test to be conducted by NTA

Prof (Dr) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, has informed that Guru Nanak Dev University was the first and only state university in north India to have got approval to launch all the three Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP) viz-a-viz B.A.- B.Ed., B.Sc.-B.Ed. and B.Com.- B.Ed for secondary stage teachers  from the session 2023-24 with an intake capacity of 50 seats in each course at its  Department of Education. The course was inaugurated by Prof Ved Prakash, former chairman UGC after a formal visit of NCTE member Secretary Ms Sherpa and other office bearers for its orientation. For admission into this course, a National Common Entrance Test (NCET) is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in which 10+2 students appear from all over the country.  NCTE has declared 30 April 2024 as the last date of registration through NCET website and also uploaded syllabus and other details. The online entrance examination will be conducted on 12 june 2024.

Prof (Dr) Amit Kauts, Head, Department of Education, said that this course has been implemented by NCTE after NEP 2020 recommended this course for preparing teachers for school system. This course will be the degree which will make students eligible to teach in school system. To take admission in this course, students will have to take the entrance test. The National Testing Agency has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) for admission to 4-years Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for the Academic session 2024-25. Qualifying the NCET is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission to 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. This course provides candidates with a deep understanding of teaching practices. It also helps develop academic skills required to be a good teacher. The candidates who complete the course will have a dual degree ie Bachelor’s degree and degree in education.

Interested candidates have to register for National Common Entrance Test (NCET) to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) by April 30, 2024 (up to 11.30 p.m.). Test will be conducted on 12.06.2024. This is also mandatory for all the students. For registration on GNDU portal please visit on www.gnduadmissions.org.The candidates who have passed the class 12/ equivalent examination or are appearing in 10+2 in the year 2024 can appear in NCET 2024 examination.

Guru Nanak Dev Universityhas taken a lead in implementing all the courses offered by NCTE. In addition to this Integrated Teacher Education Programme, the department of Education various courses such as B.Ed. Special Education (MD),M.Ed (2- years Programme), Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (1-year Programme), BSc in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), M.A. Education (2-Years Programme) with Post graduate diploma in Education (after 1-year).

Prof. Kauts further revealed that in Present Education System 5 years are requiredto get BA and B.Ed. degree. But ITEP saves students’ one-year valuable time. After completion of ITEP, students are eligible to get admission for post- graduation courses in respective subjects in universities.  ITEP prepares high quality teachers in the disciplines (Major and minor) and pedagogy subjects.
