After ditching Congress, AAP Rinku joins BJP; AAP MLA too ditches party, joins saffron party

In a double setback for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, its lone member parliament (MP) in the lower house ,Jalandhar MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural joined the BJP in Delhi on Wednesday.
A former Congress MLA, Rinku had switched to the AAP on April 27, 2023, and a day later, was declared the AAP candidate from the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency.
Sushil Kumar Rinku is now likely to contest the Lok Sabha election on a BJP ticket after joining the party
After joining BJP, Sushil Kumar Rinku said, “It is true that the promises I made to the people of Jalandhar were not fulfilled because my party (AAP) did not support me. I am impressed with the working style of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah…”
Rinku is the third sitting MP from Punjab who joins BJP in past few days. Earlier Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has joined the saffron party.
After the joining of Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural to BJP, the AAP strength in Punjab comes to 91
