AIIMS Bathinda becomes World’s first institute to start skill training course

AIIMS Bathinda has created history by becoming the first institute in the country and the world to start first of its kind short term skill training course for staff nurses called Respiratory Therapist. This training aims at skilling the nurses in ICU management and ventilator functioning thus filling the lacunae of trained staff in critical care, which will go a long way  in combating the future waves of CoVID -19.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between officials of AIIMS Bathinda, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Govt. of India and Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM), for setting up a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Health Sector at AIIMS Bathinda.

First project to be started in this CoE is Respiratory Therapist in which Nurses from all over Punjab will be trained in Critical care, ICU management and ventilator functioning at AIIMS Bathinda in 3 months free of cost fully residential course. Following the completion of training and certification by AIIMS Bathinda, these Nurses will be provided jobs in major hospitals of the country by Punjab Ghar Ghar Rojgar and Karobar Mission (PGRKAM).

At the MoU signing event, Director AIIMS Bathinda Prof. (Dr) D.K.Singh, highlighted  the limitations of health care sector laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of infrastructure, equipment and trained human resources. He said that this project will help our country to fill this trained health care human resource lacuna, thus complementing the available limited number of critical care physicians.

Harpreet Sudan (IAS), Director Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training, Govt. of Punjab assured all possible support from their side and stressed the need for starting many more projects in future at this CoE.

Dr. Kawaljit Singh, Nodal officer cum Project Coordinator for this project at AIIMS Bathinda, attributed this first of its kind project in India and the World to the visionary leadership of Director AIIMS Bathinda. While presenting the vote of thanks to all dignitaries, he termed this project as a landmark contribution towards fighting the Covid 19 pandemic.

Other dignitaries present on this occasion were DDA Col. Devender Rawat, Dean Prof. Satish Gupta, ADC Bathinda Paramveer Singh, Faculty members of AIIMS Bathinda and officials of Govt. of Punjab and Govt. of India.
