AIIMS Bathinda celebrated its 2nd Institute Day

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Bathinda celebrated its Institute Day, marking completion of two years of inauguration of OPD services at the institute.

The event began with the felicitation of the guest of honor, Padmashree Professor Dr. Digambar Behera by the Director of AIIMS Bathinda, Professor Dr. D. K. Singh. Dr. Behera is a highly respected expert in respiratory diseases and was Professor and Head of department, Pulmonary medicine, at PGI, Chandigarh. The event was also graced by AIIMS Institute Body member Professor Dr Rajiv Gupta, who is a cardiac surgeon at DMC, Ludhiana and Professor Dr. Vitull Gupta, who is a Bathinda-based senior physician.

The Dean and Additional Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Bathinda, Col. Dr. Satish Gupta presented the annual report of the institute, highlighting the achievements of the institute. He emphasized the role played by the institute during the second wave of the Covid pandemic, and the ‘black fungus’ epidemic, when other hospitals in the region were struggling to handle the crisis. The chief guest in his address, congratulated the Director and faculty for the remarkable progress made by the institute within a short span of time. He expressed hope that with the hard work of faculty, the institute can attain the stature of PGI, Chandigarh soon. The  Director, in his address, highlighted the exceptional work being done by the surgeons in handling complex surgeries like knee and hip replacement, cancer surgeries, brain surgeries etc. with limited resources and space as the modular OT complex is still under construction

The chief guest along with other dignitaries unveiled the institute magazine “Ek Kadam” featuring the principal accomplishments of the various departments, as well as articles, stories, poetry and photographs from the students, faculty and staff on the second Institute Day celebratiosn-23rd of December. This was followed by the prize distribution, where the MBBS students –Pankhita Ghai, Jaya Jain, Ishaan Manaktala and Mayank Garg received the institute gold medals from the Chief Guest and the Director for their outstanding academic performance. This was followed by the cultural evening which featured song, dance, poem and skit performances from students, nurses, faculty and staff of the hospital.
