AIIMS Bathinda Celebrates International Nurses Day with Hybrid Symposium

Institute of Nursing Education and Research (INER) and Nursing Service Department at AIIMS Bathinda commemorated International Nurses Day with unbridled enthusiasm, embracing the poignant theme “Our Nurses. Our Future”. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.” A visionary hybrid symposium, seamlessly integrating online and offline modalities, was orchestrated to convene a diverse assembly of nursing professionals, faculty members, and students from esteemed institutions.

The symposium comprised four meticulously crafted sessions, showcasing the expertise of distinguished faculty and renowned experts from across the nation. The opening session was expertly steered by Dr. Narinder Kaur Walia, Associate Professor at INER, AIIMS Bathinda, and Dr. Moonis Mirza, DMS cum Associate Professor, Hospital Administration, AIIMS Bathinda. Dr. Vinitha Ravindran, Dean of the College of Nursing at CMC Vellore, delivered a captivating presentation on “Nurses Retention Strategies to Reduce Nurses Turnover.” Thereafter Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Professor at Himalayan College of Nursing, Uttarakhand, shed light on the “Nurse Practitioner Program: Effectiveness on Quality Patient Care & Healthcare Cost.”

The subsequent sessions were moderated by Dr. Kamlesh K. Sharma, Professor-cum-Principal, INER, AIIMS Bathinda, and Dr. Rakesh Kakkar, Professor & HOD of Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Bathinda. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Professor cum Principal, NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh, presented on “Impact of Nursing Research Funding on Nursing Practice & Patient Outcome”. Vineet Kumar, Principal Private Secretary and officer In-charge IT, AIIMS Rishikesh, delivered a presentation on “Fostering Nurses Tele-Health Literacy: To Enhance Trust and Improve Health Outcomes.” All the sessions were highly engaging and generated meaningful discussions.

The Festivities began with a dignified floral welcome, followed by the sacred lamp lighting ceremony and the soul-stirring melody of Ganesh Vandana. This was complemented by a warm welcome address from Prof. (Dr.) Kamlesh K. Sharma, who set a tone of camaraderie and shared purpose among the gathering. Brief glimpses of the activities in the week preceding the International Nurses Day were showcased. These included Pencil sketching, Poster Making, Extempore and Essay Competition, Food Fest, Sports Competitions and Blood Donation Camp.

Prof. (Dr.) Meenu Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bathinda, unfolded the theme, emphasizing the vital role of nurses and the profession in shaping the future of healthcare. She highlighted the significance of evidence-based research and underscored the need for fostering a research-oriented culture at AIIMS Bathinda, paving the way for future advancements in nursing practice.

The online keynote address was delivered by Espen Gade Rolland, Assistant Professor at Lovisenberg Diaconal University College and ICN certified Global Nurse Consultant from Norway. Patient testimonials highlighted exceptional care and compassion at AIIMS Bathinda. Addresses by Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Kumar, Medical Superintendent and Prof. (Dr.) Akhilesh Pathak, Dean Academics emphasized the importance of nursing professionals in healthcare and the need for protecting their interests.

The celebration drew to a close with a grand felicitation ceremony, where participants were felicitated for their outstanding achievements and presented with certificates.  Navjot Kaur, Associate Professor at INER, AIIMS Bathinda, expressed sincere gratitude in her vote of thanks. The evening’s culmination was marked by captivating cultural performances, meticulously curated and presented by nursing officers and students, leaving a lasting impression on all present.
