In a remarkable achievement under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Gupta, the Department of Pediatric Surgery at AIIMS Bathinda, a newborn with a complex congenital urinary tract condition was successfully treated through timely diagnosis, multidisciplinary coordination, and expert surgical care. The child, born with a single right functioning kidney affected by renal fibro-muscular dysplasia, antenatally diagnosed right uretero-pelvic junction obstruction, and mid-ureteric stenosis, underwent emergency percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) on Day 1 of life. This was followed by Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty with DJ stent placement to ensure proper urinary drainage.

The postoperative recovery was smooth, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 7. Six weeks later, the DJ stent was safely removed. The child continues to thrive, living a healthy and complication-free life.

This successful outcome was achieved by Dr. Navdeep Singh Dhoat and the dedicated Pediatric Surgery team, and with vital anaesthetic support from Dr. Anju Grewal and neonatologist Dr. Manish along with the operating and nursing teams. The blessings and support of the entire AIIMS faculty contributed to this achievement.

This case underscores the importance of early diagnosis, infection control, and expert surgical intervention in managing congenital anomalies in children with a single functioning kidney.
