Bharatiya Janata Party Rupnagar district President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura, yesterday met the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, and placed before him two extremely serious issues of public interest concerning the district in a detailed manner.
During the meeting, Lalpura first raised the issue of the Nurpur Bedi–Chandigarh–Nurpur Bedi CTU bus service, which has been discontinued for the past nearly two months. He stated that this bus service is of immense importance to students, working professionals, employees, and the general public of the region. With a departure for Chandigarh at 7 AM and return by around 7:15 PM, the service was well aligned with the daily requirements of commuters. Due to the suspension of the bus service, people are now being forced to depend on private vehicles or costly alternatives, resulting in increased financial burden and mental stress. Lalpura demanded that the bus service be restored immediately in the larger public interest.
As the second and more serious issue, he strongly highlighted the persistent illegal mining activities in Rupnagar district. Ajayvir Singh Lalpura informed the Governor that in March 2025, based on his complaint regarding illegal mining, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) took serious cognizance of the matter and issued a formal letter to the Government of Punjab. However, despite clear directions from the PMO, it is unfortunate that no concrete or effective action has been taken on the ground so far. He termed this as a glaring example of administrative negligence at the district level and apathy on the part of the state government.
Lalpura stated that illegal mining is not only causing severe environmental damage but is also posing a serious threat to the natural flow of rivers, agricultural land in rural areas, and the safety of common citizens. He further alleged that due to the inaction and indifference of the local administration, the illegal mining mafia is operating fearlessly and openly violating the law.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, appreciating the gravity of the issues raised, immediately contacted the Chief Secretary of Punjab and issued necessary directions. Ajayvir Singh Lalpura expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Governor for his sensitivity towards public concerns and his prompt intervention.

Speaking on the occasion, Lalpura issued an open challenge to the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs of Rupnagar district, questioning why no concrete action has been taken against illegal mining during the last four years of their tenure. He said that the people do not want mere announcements but expect tangible results on the ground.
Ajayvir Singh Lalpura clarified that these issues are not political for him, but a fight for the rights of students, employees, farmers, and common citizens of Rupnagar district. He reiterated that until justice is delivered to the people, he will continue to stand firmly with them and raise their voice with full strength at every constitutional and democratic forum.
During this courtesy meeting, Rampal Bajad, Naresh Kumari, and Raj Kumar Rana were also specially present.
