ALERT! Plan finalized to release water from Bhakra Dam, Flood Control Gates to open today

A detailed plan has been finalized to release water in a controlled manner from the Bhakra Dam of the Bhakra Nangal Power Project. As per the letter issued by the Senior Design Engineer, Water Regulation, BBMB Nangal, the gates of the dam will be opened gradually on 19th August 2025 starting from 3 PM.
In the first phase, at 3 PM, the flood control gates (Turbine + Spillway) will be opened by one foot, in the second phase at 4 PM by two feet, and in the third phase at 5 PM up to three feet including radial and flood control gates.
The BBMB administration has instructed the concerned officials to ensure timely action as per the schedule so that the water release process is carried out smoothly and safely.
According to the BBMB records, by 6 AM on Tuesday, the water level of Bhakra Dam had reached 1665.06 feet, while the normal storage capacity of the dam is 1680 feet.
