All set for today’s Punjabi University syndicate meeting; discussion on around 50 agendas

February 25, 2021 is going to entered in the history of Punjabi university Patiala, as a historic day, when for the first time, its syndicate meeting is going to be held at Chandigarh, outside the university campus.
It’s the first syndicate meeting, after the officiating vice chancellor Ravneet Kaur IAS, took the reins of Punjabi university, in Nov 2020.
In the last syndicate meeting, that was held on September 30, 2020, it was unanimously decided to hold the meeting, every month, to clear the pendency. But, once again, a gap occurred and the list of agenda, kept on increasing. In today’s meeting, around 50 agendas are going to be discussed, including main and additional agenda’s
One of the main agenda, in today’s meeting is to discuss the financial position of the university, to clear the adhoc appointments of non-teaching staff, to clear the liabilities, to adopt the new rules , absorption of mobile bill allowances etc.
AS per sources, the syndicate is going to discuss the financial position of the university, as no bank is giving the loan to the institution. The university has taken a loan from the erstwhile state bank of Patiala, now State Bank of India in 2013 and over drafting is being done by the university. The university has to clear the pending payments, liabilities of around 75 crores towards the various vendors, contractors of the university and syndicate approval is needed.
All set for today’s Punjabi University syndicate meeting; discussion on around 50 agendas, another key agenda of today’s meeting is “to absorb the new pay scales for the fresh recruitment, appointments in the services of Govt of Punjab or as entities thereof regarding.” said the sources.
It’s to be seen, what the university syndicate is going to take decision on appointments done in the past, in which around 6-7 teaching faculty members had got appointments on fake SC/BC certificates. These are working as the faculty in the economics, engineering departments.
In another agenda, a syndicate decision is an important on the quashing of an appointment of Dr Dilraj Singh, an assistant professor of the computer science department, who had done his M.Tech through distance learning mode from another university. AICTE has already derecognized the engineering course, through distance learning. Now, Dilraj Singh is not a qualified M.Tech degree holder. The services of Dr Dilraj Singh have already withdrawn, after a committee formed by the former vice chancellor and the committee in a meeting, held on June 25, 2020 took the decision and forwarded the report to the syndicate. Now syndicate has to decide.
Another key agenda of today’s syndicate meeting, that is going to be discussed is about the anomalies being done in the past by former vice chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh, in allotting the houses in the university campus. It is alleged that almost 85-90 percent house allotment being done in the past by Dr Jaspal Singh, in his tenure were not as per rules. He overruled in most of the cases and allotted the houses in the university, to the staff, faculty, who don’t even fulfill the required criteria.
As per available information, the syndicate is also going to discuss, take decisions on the outcome of pending enquiries against the staff, faculty. Earlier, officiating vice chancellor Anurag Verma IAS, had ordered by the enquiries to be done in the anomalies being done during the former vice chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh tenure.
All set for today’s Punjabi University syndicate meeting; discussion on around 50 agendas. The university syndicate will give his approval to the appointments/ additional charges given to the university faculty as deans, provost, wardens etc. etc
