The custodian of cleanliness of any city is the local municipal council of the area. But what will happen when the head of the city himself pay two hoots to it and turns his residence into garbage dump.

The same thing happened in the Royal City Nabha where the official residence of executive officer (EO) of Municipal Council Nabha’s residence has been turned into garbage dumping site. Even the official car is still parked there and the department failed to dispose it off.

When contacted the executive officer (EO), Gurcharan Singh he said” this is not a garbage dumping site. We segregate the wet and dry waste. My predecessors had made pits in the official residence of EO as no one is occupying the residence due to various reasons. They made pits within the boundary wall. We segregate the wet waste and dry waste and put the segregated waste and into the compost pit which converts it into organic manure.”

He added that “the official residence of executive officer, municipal council Nabha is spread into 1 acre of land. The residence is vacant as no officer stayed there. But anyone can live in the residence.” When asked how anyone in a garbage dumping site can live where garbage comes daily, he said “no, anyone can stay there and cut the phone.”

When contacted Navreet Kaur Sekhon, additional deputy commissioner (ADC), urban, Patiala, she said “the matter is already in her knowledge.” She endorses the claim of EO MC Nabha Gurcharan Singh and said “ the city is divided into various sectors for dry-wet waste segregation. The garbage of this sector is segregated in the earmarked official residence of EO, Nabha . After the segregation the dry waste material is dumped into the compost pits to convert the green waste into the manure. Even the MC has signed a MoU for the waste and the same is given to the company from which the MC earns.”

When asked why the official residence located on a prime land is used for garbage dumping, she said “I’ll look into it.”

Additional chief secretary local government Tejveer Singh, IAS said “I don’t know anything about this. I’ll get it checked.”

Rajesh Dhingra a local resident said “why the government is using this prime land in the heart of the city as dumping ground. If no one is living here the govt can sell the land under its optimum utilization of vacant govt land (OUVGL) scheme and use it in a better way. The residents living near the ‘govt made dumping ground’ had raised this issue at all platform but no one is ready to solve this issue.”
