Another PCS officer in trouble: Vigilance recovers cash from officer posted as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation

Yesterday late night Punjab Vigilance Bureau has raided the house of Vikramjit Singh Panthey, PCS posted as Municipal Corporation Commissioner-cum-SDM, Batala in Gurdsapur district.

As per reports, Vigilance has raided the house on the complaint of Amarpal singh a resident of BCO Complex, Batala as Panthey was demanding cut for clearing his bills. Panthey was taken into custody after Rs 50,000 bribe money is recovered from him. Later the vigilance searched his house and recovered Rs.13 lakh 50 thousand in unaccounted .cash

As per available information, complainant Amarpal Singh, resident of BCO Complex, Batala, stated that he had carried out patchwork and repair work of roads for the Municipal Corporation, Batala, for which two of his bills—Rs 1,87,483 and Rs1,85,369 (total  Rs. 3,72,852)—were prepared.

When he met the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Batala, regarding the payment, the Commissioner told him that he would have to pay a bribe of 10 percent (Rs 37,000) of the bill amount in order to receive the payment, and directed him to meet SDO Rohit Uppal in this regard.

Later, the complainant carried out camera and related work for a light and sound show in Batala, amounting to Rs 1,81,543. In this way, the total outstanding amount came to around Rs 5,54,395.

When he met SDO Rohit Uppal regarding this payment, he was told that the Commissioner’s instructions would have to be followed. Upon meeting the Commissioner again, the Commissioner agreed to release the payment on receiving a 9% bribe.

The complainant did not want to get his work done by giving a bribe, so he approached the office of the Vigilance Bureau, Unit Gurdaspur, and submitted Rs. 50,000 to be used as trap money and recorded his statement. Following this, an FIR was registered against the accused Commissioner.

An FIR No. 44, dated 21.11.2025, under Section 7 Police Corruption Prevention Act 1988 (Amended 2018), Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Amritsar is registered.

Earlier Charumita and Gurvinder Singh Johal, both PCS were suspended
