Motivated by the anti-stubble burning and anti-agriculture residue burning campaign of the Punjab government, farmer Lakhwinder Singh Brar from village Jai Singh Wala has shunned the practice from this season onwards.

Taking onus of his duty towards safeguarding environment as a farmer, Lakhwinder Singh decided not to burn the paddy stubble and instead make bales of the same using mechanized baler.

Giving this information farmer Lakhwinder Singh said that he does farming in 31 acre so his land. Like other farmers, he too used to commit the blunder of putting paddy stubble on fire. But keeping in view the harmful effect of smoke that billows out of burning of paddy stubble and the consequent loss to fertility of soil, he decided not to put paddy stubble on fire. He contacted the baler operators that aided in harvesting the crop and making stacks of paddy. “An acre of paddy yielded around 2 tons stubble. Burning it would have killed the farmer friendly insects as well as would have adversely affected the soil. Now the same paddy will enrich my fields” he says.
