Applications open for BBMB Chairman as MoP highlights complex Punjab–Haryana–Rajasthan–HP issues

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has invited applications for the post of Chairman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), with the position set to fall vacant on September 28, 2026. The Board is headquartered in Chandigarh.
In September 2023, Manoj Tripathi who was Chief Engineer, CEA at that time was appointed Chairman for 3 years. He is also seeking re-employment.
In its notification, the Ministry highlighted that the Chairman’s post carries significant responsibility, particularly in managing complex inter-state matters involving partner states — Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. The role requires mature judgment and extensive experience in handling large infrastructure and power projects.
The post is placed at Level-16 of the Pay Matrix (Rs 205400–224400) under the Central Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016.
As per the eligibility criteria, candidates must be Engineering Graduates in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical disciplines from a recognised university or institution.
Applicants should have at least 25 years of regular service, including a minimum of five years as Head of Project in large hydroelectric projects (200 MW or more), major transmission networks, large dams, barrages, or canal systems. Alternatively, officers who have served as Chief Engineer (Senior Administrative Grade Level) with 25 years of experience in irrigation or power project construction, operation, maintenance, planning or design are also eligible.
The Ministry has sought the application by March 11, 2026.
