Appointment: chief justice of a high court appointed as Supreme Court judge

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President of India has appointed Justice Prasanna Bhalachandra Varale, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court (PHC: Bombay), as Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Justice Varale is set to fill the sole vacancy in the Supreme Court which occurred after the retirement of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul in December.
Justice Prasanna B. Varale, born on 23rd June, 1962 at Nipani. He graduated in Arts and Law from Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. Enrolled as an Advocate on 12th August, 1985. Joined Chamber of Advocate S.N.Loya and practiced on Civil & Criminal Side. Served as lecturer in Law at Ambedkar Law College, Aurangabad from 1990 to 1992. Also worked as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor, High Court Bench at Aurangabad AND Additional Standing Counsel for Union Of India. Elevated at Bombay High Court on 18/07/2008 and His Lordship took oath as The Chief Justice of High Court of Karnataka on 15th October 2022.
