As long as Punjabi people will stand with Punjabi University, there will be no threat to it: Prof. Arvind

Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Arvind said that as long as Punjabi people stand with Punjabi University, its future will be bright and it will not face any threat.
In his presidential speech on the occasion of the 10th ‘Alumni Meet’ of Punjabi University, Prof. Arvind said that Punjab is not just a geographical region but wherever Punjabi speaking people live, that is Punjab. In this sense, Punjabi University is an international university. Prof. Arvind said that Punjabi University is a university of great repute as it brings together Punjabi speaking people from across the world.
Sharing his experience of three years at the university, he said that Punjabi University is a unique type of university which is playing an important role in uplifting Punjabi language, culture and the intellectual level of Punjabi people. He said that in very few universities there is freedom to express one’s opinion freely but Punjabi University gives complete freedom to everyone to express their opinion. He mentioned the various steps taken to maintain such an environment in Punjabi University. On this occasion, he also specially thanked the Punjab government for increasing the monthly grant of the university. He said that no employee’s salary is due at this time. He shared his experience working in the university and asserted the need to connect Punjabi with technology and make it fashionable as people hesitate to speak in Punjabi.
Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Gurbir Singh recalled that period of 1982 during his address. He was law student at that time. He said that due to this university, he is here. Recalling the instructions given by his teachers in the class, he said that now even when he is sitting in the High Court, he remembers that words. While sharing his memories about his career, he said that the education he received from Punjabi University guided him at every turn.
Surjit Patar, who arrived as a special guest, said that Prof. Arvind has taken out the University from the state of crisis . It is a nice feeling that the financial condition of Punjabi University is improving now. He said that Punjabi University is like a place of pilgrimage for us. This university has a major contribution in our achievements. He said that he is most proud of his decision that he has studied from Punjabi University. Special guest Harcharan Singh Bhullar, said that he feels proud to hear the achievements of the University. He recalled his memories of the law department.
The event began with the tradition of lighting the lamps. Gurbir Singh (Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court) was the chief guest of the event. The other esteemed guests included Harcharan Singh Bhullar (DIG) and Dr. Surjeet Patar. Dr. Avneetpal Singh moderated the event. Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Ashok Kumar Tiwari welcomed the guests and expressed his joy at the immense response received from the alumni.
Prof Gurmukh Singh, Dean Alumni apprised everyone of the efforts made by the university to fulfil its mandate under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arvind. He welcomed everyone to officially join the university alumni association and emphasised on the vital role of alumni in a university in building a network of connections that may facilitate everyone involved.
On the occasion a website was also launched. Which will be a platform for dynamic interaction and information about on-going University projects and alumni. The University honored twelve alumni members from various departments of the University. Six non alumni were given honorary membership to the alumni association and two as patron members. Prof. Arvind honoured his teacher Sukhpal Singh Sekhon who was present in the audience. The registrar, Prof. Navjot Kaur delivered the vote of thanks. The audience was also thrilled by songs sung by popular Punjabi singers Joban Sandhu and Kulwinder Billa who were also present as the alumni.
