Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to shiromani akali dal leader Bikram singh Majithia.
Majithia had approached high court seeking bail on May 23 in a case registered under various sections of NDPS Act in December 2021 by the Punjab Police. He surrendered after the February 20 assembly polls and is currently lodged in the Patiala jail.
Case History
Majithia has been in jail over his alleged involvement in a drugs case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in December 2021 and sent to jail on January 24.
Bikram Singh Majithia had approached a Mohali court, as the case is registered against him at Mohali, seeking to quash the FIR registered against him earlier in February. On his application, the district court had, however, rejected his plea prompting him to move the Supreme Court to seek regular bail in the case registered against him at Mohali. The apex court, on May 11, had refused to entertain the plea and asked him to instead approach the High Court. Later he approached the Punjab and Haryana High court. The division Bench of Justices MS Ramachandra Rao and Sureshwar Thakur had reserved the order on the bail plea on July 29.
Majithia had lost from Amritsar East assembly constituency after the Aam Aadmi Party scored a massive victory in Punjab.
