Baba Farid College organized Two Day National Workshop
Baba Farid College organized two days National Workshop On Advances in Material Science and Natural Radionuclide in collaboration with Nuclear Track Society of INDIA and sponsored by BOARD OF RESEARCH IN NUCLEAR SCIENCES (BRNS), Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).
The workshop was basically intended to target the researchers working in the field of radiation measurements and medical sciences. But simultaneously providing wide information related to hazards caused by natural radionuclide’s which have their origin in the environment around us or the cosmological reactions affecting our environment.
Chairman of Baba Farid Group ,Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal welcomed the guests and congratulated the principal and staff of Baba Farid College, Bathinda on the successful organization of the workshop.Dr. Dhaliwal told that to motivate the students for Research and Development BFGI is taking numerous steps and a separate budget worth crores have been given to R&D department.
Some of the major topics covered during the two-day workshop were:
Naturally occurring Radionuclides related health effects, Detection of Radon, Thoron and their progeny by active and passive technique, Application of Radon and Thoron in the Environmental study, Radiation measurement and Dosimetry, Nuclear track filters and their applications, Heavy ion Nuclear Physics and cosmic rays, Nuclear Instrumentation, Nano Science and Nanotechnology etc.
On Day 1 of the workshop, Chief Guest, Dr. B.K. Sapra, Head, Environmental and Biodosimetry Section, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Radiological Phy & Adv. Division, Mumbai told about radiation physics and also enlightened the students about the use of radiation in the treatment of various diseases. In the second session, Dr. Rohit Mehra, Associate Professor, National Institute of Technology Jalandhar, Department of Physics, Radiation Dosimetery,
On Day 2 of the workshop Chief Guest Prof.(Dr.) Jasbir Hundal, Registrar Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University Bathinda told the research students about the latest technical developments in the field of research. Prof. (Dr.) S K Chakraborty, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad gave an expert talk on Condensed Matter Physics. The students were also taken to the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda for a Hands on Experience in Condensed Matter Physics. The students and faculty were taken to research laboratories and Dr. S K Mahapatra from Central University gave an expert talk on Electronic Gun.
