Bangladesh crises deepens: PM Hasina resigns; Army takes over in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post and Bangladesh army chief has declared plans to establish an interim government

As per available information the army chief of Bangladesh has asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and left the position. Later the army chief Waker-Uz-Zaman takes over the country and addressed the nation.

Whereas the son of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday urged the country’s security forces to block any takeover from her rule as hundreds of thousands of protesters demanded she quit. “Your duty is to keep our people safe and our country safe and to uphold the constitution,” US-based Sajeeb Wazed Joy said in a post on Facebook.

In his address to the nation , the army chief called for peace and assured the public that every death related to the current unrest will be held accountable. He emphasized that the military is committed to restoring order and finding a resolution by tonight.

As per new agencies, in a televised address, Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman announced that the military will establish an interim government. He urged protesters to end their demonstrations and stated that he takes “full responsibility” for the ongoing violence in the country. Zaman stated that the Army will investigate all the killings that have occurred in the country over the past few weeks.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her post and left the Dhaka palace for a “safer place” amid escalating unrest and mounting pressure on her administration.
