Barnala tops Punjab in field postpartum family planning

Health department Barnala bagged the title position in Punjab in the field of postpartum family planning as Health Minister Punjab Balbir Singh Sidhu felicitated district health authorities during a state level function held at Chandigarh. Dr. Isha Gupta, a gynecologist at civil hospital Barnala, was also specially honored as Best PPIUCD provider doctor by Health Minister for as many as 872 cases during 2018-19.
Civil Surgeon Barnala informed that Postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (PPIUCD) is a family planning method which is highly effective, reliable, inexpensive, non-hormonal, immediately reversible, and long-acting contraceptive that could be initiated during the immediate postpartum period and it has no a negative effect on lactation. He added that PPIUCD also promote the health of the women and children by preventing financial, psychological, obstetric, and other health-related complications associated with closely spaced pregnancies.
Civil Surgeon said that the district residents were regularly being sensitised to various population issues such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health etc. He added that the resources are getting depleted at a rapid pace due to increasing demands of growing population. He emphasised on the need to curb the population so that our present as well as future generations can live happily on this planet earth.
