Basant Panchami, a festival of Saraswati Goddess is celebrated at Punjab Institute of Technology (PIT) Nandgarh, a constituent college of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda.
More than 150 students participated in the kite flying competition. The kites and strings were provided by the institute. For some of the girl students, it was the first experience to fly kites. Out of surprise, the boys were outsmarted by the girls of the campus. The campus was out roaring with Patang Kati Gayi, Aayi Bo etc. and many more celebrations. The event was followed by dance by faculty, staff and the students.
SC/ST students are already availing fees waiver scheme under Post Matric Scholarship scheme. There are other schemes for General/OBC category students under Chief Minister Scholarship schemes. Still many deserving students are deprived of higher education because of family financial constraints.
Keeping a strong note of it, Prof.(Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu, Vice Chancellor, MRSPTU, Bathinda launched a fundraising scheme & SEEDS (Support and Encouraging for Education to the Deserving Students) to raise the funds from the society for deserving students to pursue their education at the campus. Many students of rural areas would be benefited out of this scheme.
