Bathinda District declared Open Defecation Free-DC
Bathinda-Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Diprava Lakra today declared Bathinda open defecation free (ODF) taking a major stride towards clean and hygienic atmosphere. Congratulating the district residents for it, DC Lakra stated that under Swachh Bharat Mission toilets were constructed in those households that did not have it. Not only did the government provide financial help but also technical know-how and right designs for construction of toilets.
He added that to make the country free from open defecation, the campaign for constructing toilets was launched in the year 2014 and today the entire district Bathinda has been declared free from open defecation. He added that the district administration and water supply and sanitation department has worked hard on the project by educating people on importance of constructing toilets. The teams of water supply and sanitation department put up banners, hoardings, held camps, seminars and through mobile vans educated people about the ill effects of defecating in open and advantages of having a toilet constructed. He added that 303 villages of the district have been declared open defecation free.
Lakra handed over ODF self declaration form to the XEN water supply and sewerage board Jaswinder Singh and ADSO Amandepe Singh Brar. XEN Mr Jaswinder Singh stated that till next 6 months, the department will keep a strict vigil over the villages to ensure that all are following ODF norms. He added that the certificate that DC Lakra has issued, will be uploaded on the website of Government of India.
